Questions & Answers about your trees

We want you to know how your trees are planted and how they are taken care of.
We compiled this general Q&A for you, to help you understand the process:

Where does our seeds and trees come from?
The seeds and trees come from a local nursery.

How will our trees be cared for?
Trees are surrounded with a fence where needed.
Someone is appointed to guard the trees from animals and people until the trees can grow on their own. We will always have protection from the local authorities and the residents of the village.

Where will the water for our trees come from?
We buy the seeds and saplings and put them in bags filled with dirt. Then, we water them for 45 days to three months. Seeds will sprout / saplings will grow stronger. Thus, irrigation happens in the nursery stage for a period of three months, and after that the tree depends on rainwater.

We can divide the project into two phases:
1. Nursery stage: Seeds and saplings are grown and nurtured in the nursery.
2. Planting stage: Saplings are transferred to the dunes and planted at the time of the first rainfall. This is usually a 3 month period in which the trees grow.

Months and stages:
The incubation period is from March to May. From June to October, we transfer the sprouted seeds / saplings to the sand. This is the rainy period. It helps the tree's growth.

Before placing the trees in the sand, other preparations are made, such as having the fences and other agricultural equipment.

This is the technique that we use here in Mauritania.
